Thunderstorms and a Rose

It was a dark and stormy night...it was really, we had storms all night and it has been thundering and lightning today as well with a few tornado warnings and watches mixed in. Welcome to spring in Minnesota! I can't complain because I actually like watching storms, the sky turns such interesting colors. Right now there is rain but you can see the sunlight through the cloud cover and it is getting brighter by the minute. Yes, I will complain when it is 100 degrees and July and -10 in January but the change of seasons and weather patterns are a few of the things that I love about this state.

My post for today is kind of a stylized cutout rose picture. I drew flower with white pencil on the brown cardstock and then using my small scissors cut out the design. This one took a while because it was more complex and I also was trying to be careful not to snip through any of the thin 'borders' of the pattern. The easy part was attaching the colored paper to the back.

Heartthrob Cafe Memories

The best job ever and the coolest friends that I ever had were when I worked at a restaurant called the Heartthrob Cafe. It was in downtown St Paul, Minnesota and was so fun! Today we had a get together to catch up and reminisce. This is one of the many good things about facebook, finding people that you wished you never lost contact with. So, today my post is the buttons that I made for this event. We had 'flair' that was a lot more fun and cool than a restaurant chain that I will not name here. We danced and sang birthday songs. The girls wore poodle skirts and we did all of this while wearing in line skates. We were a crazy family and honestly this was one of the best times in my life. Ahhh...memories. Pansy Pig

This is the second time that I have found a pig cutting board to use as a canvas for my painting. This one is slightly larger than the previous one and also has a cute curly tail. It cost 1.49 at the Goodwill, one of their weekly specials. Every Tuesday they feature a different color of tag and anything with that color is 1.49. I love Tuesdays! Instead of another block design, I decided to paint pansies only in colors that they don't naturally grow. I have mentioned my preference for things in black and white, but, red is a color that is next on my list of favorites. The flowers really jump out at you in this project. My next step is where to put her. Ah, decisions. Happy Creating!

Cocktail Coasters Part One

What a beautiful day! Read the Sunday paper, went for a walk, relaxed and painted. I actually painted outside to fully take advantage of the weather. Since tropical things are on my mind because of yesterday, the project for this post is featuring refreshing summer beverages. This set of coasters is from a great thrift store and cost 1.91, what a bargain. The original style is definitely from the seventies. At first the plan was to make each coaster a different color, but that just didn't work. A neutral color worked much better with the colorful cocktails. With the distraction of the weather only three and the holder were finished today. The others should be done for tomorrow. Hmm...why does a margarita sound good right now?
