Creative Dawn

Here it is the last of my daily posting.  Nothing fancy today just a simple drawing to sum up this year.  My life has changed a lot since last August.  John Lennon wrote a wonderful song with this line, "Life is what happens while you're busy making other plans."  It is so true, you never know what will happen when you wake up in the morning, each day is a new adventure. I will continue to create and post but it will be nice to be able to focus on larger projects and spend more time on them.  In this past year, my style and interests have grown so much and I am very proud of this accomplishment.  Please continue to check back with me!  

Way last October I got two little houses at the Goodwill.  The first one was painted like a haunted house for Halloween and this one was going to be a gingerbread house for Christmas.  Well, it just didn't look right even after painting it a few different ways.  It was set aside until an idea struck which was in the past few days, just as my blog is winding down.  I decided to paint it in fun colors and just randomly make designs.  It is what my style is really all about, crazy patterns adorn mostly everything and color is the key.  This house is a DVD holder but we own too many to fit in here.  There is a shelf inside so it could be used for many things, I'll think about it and figure it out later.  One more day to meet my goal!  It is such an accomplishment for me to have been able to do this blog.  As mentioned a few times before, the blog will continue I just won't be posting daily.  Still not sure...

This weekend is my class reunion.  I am in charge of games and prizes, boy did they pick the right person!  When I told my husband that my blog post today was going to be about the games, he said why.  Well, in response to him, I informed him that not all creativity is always about what you make, you can be creative in many ways.  He still didn't agree but it's my blog not his!  BTW, this picture is of a pillow that I made before graduation that has all of the names of my classmates cross stitched on it and then it was signed by everyone.  It is a great keepsake. What to do for a reunion...bingo was an early thought but making all of the cards seemed like a bit much.  Before the games begin, (LOL) let me tell you that in my graduating class there were 44 people and about 200 total student at the high school.  We pretty much knew everyone so there will also be people from other classes attending.  Everyone always thinks it is weird to have...

So, I cannot find the original picture of this horse, but he was off white with little red flower decorations.  This wooden statue is about 14 inches tall.  At first, this horse was going to be black with bright colored accents but it just wasn't working so I set it aside waiting for a creativity to strike.  He has been sitting in my to do pile for a few months.  Then a few days ago this idea came to mind.  I really love this style inspired by Van Gogh, it is fun to do and the results are always interesting.  The tail on the horse didn't work with my painting style so, I cut it off used a piece of artificial wreath instead.  How's that for creativity?! Today was another beautiful day and I have tomorrow off.  WOO HOO!  So many things to do and so many projects to work on.  As with any day off my to do list is probably way more than I can accomplish, but I love to keep busy.  Oh yeah, discount Tuesday at the Goodwill, may have to add one more thing to my list! While doodling, this idea came to mind.  It originally was going to be just three or four profiles, but I just kept building on it.  These were all cut out individually and then mounted on the black background.  It's cool because you can look at it as a whole and then look at each face.  I am in no way comparing myself to MC Escher, but it has that kind of optical illusion effect.  It is so exciting to me that after so many years of being an artist that I can still discover new mediums that inspire my creativity.

It's Sunday, part of the weekend and all I did today was paint.  I'll go to my day job tomorrow and people will ask about the weekends activities and as usual, mine was consumed with creativity.  Oh how I wish it was my full time job, maybe someday soon, but not tomorrow.   :(  Yes, I painted my weekend away and today you get to see a small piece.  This is a design that I also want to use as a cutout like the fish from the other day.  From this painting project the idea of a companion piece was born.  Look for that in the near future.   I drew out a basic outline for the seahorse and painted it onto this wooden plank.  This is a stylistic painting rather than real but the effect is perfect for the project.   The larger project will be posted soon.  I am proud of the progress on it and hope that you enjoy the end results.

 This is a great little container.  The design is nice, but it's not my style which means that I had to change it.  I got it in a box of stuff that my grandma was just going to get rid of.  She decided to ask me first if I would be interested in taking it.  Of course!  Remember, one man's trash is another man's treasure.  Originally I wasn't sure what to do with this so I just experimented.  The final decision was to make all different designs on the sides.  The container was also the perfect size to store my paint brushes.  This was a lot of fun to paint in the varying designs.  REMINDER!!!  Never get rid of something that can be redone to match your style.  Creativity is a challenge to make something that no one else would.

Today, I am having a difficult time finding my creativity.  This past year has not been easy for my husband and I, but we have muddled through it.  Most days I try to keep a good attitude, but today, was a hard one for me.  I don't want to divulge the details because so many people out there have things a lot worse than we do.  My troubles are small in comparison to so many tragedies around the world.   So today, let's discuss inspiration.  A former co-worker of mine is truly one of the most inspirational people that I know.  Yesterday, I got a wonderful card from her in the mail.  She has a heart of gold and has always gone out of her way to give a little.  Most times it's just a note with a wonderful quote and a thank you for being who you are.  Sometimes it comes with a few pieces of chocolate.  Positive words and chocolate, how could that not bring a smile to your face.  My wonderful card of inspiration  Today, I a...
