Stained Glass Flower Painting

I bought two wooden plates at the Goodwill recently.  This is the larger of the set, tomorrow the other one will be posted.  Sometimes when I get an idea it gets stuck in my head I feel the need to create a few items in that style or design.  That is probably true with most artists and creative people.  Picasso had his blue period and if you look at a lot of artists they do seem to have times when certain styles or themes dominate their work.  So, both plates are painted in a stained glass style and both are flowers.  I remember mentioning way back when this blog was started that flowery designs were not a preference of mine and now there are many posts with flowers.  Maybe I should clarify, the girly pastels and foo foo floral do not appeal to me.  The ones in this blog are more stylized. It's a rambling kind of day, sorry!  Hope you like the post for today.  Have a great Friday!

Picasso Inspired Table Top

Lately, I have been wanting to do larger paintings and drawings but was unable to find anything budget friendly in a large scale.  I started looking around my home for anything that would work and then realized that the perfect piece was my nightstand table top.  This was purchased at Ikea a few years ago and is the removable top to small dresser that I use as a bedside table.  The design influence is obvious, definitely one of my favorites, Pablo Picasso.  It started from doodling my initial 'D' and grew from there.  If you look at the eyes you may be able to see a letter 'D'.  As the doodle grew, it started to resemble something in the Picasso style so I went with it.  This is a great piece to add to my decor and I am excited about it.  Colors, like features, follow the changes of the emotions - Pablo Picasso

Tape and Mirrors

I've had this mirror for a while and I don't really remember the original color.  It was purchased at the Goodwill probably about seven or eight years ago.  When I first got it, I applied a crackle finish on it and then painted it black with a gold design.  Now, with no budget, I figured it was time to change it.  This is a design that anyone can do.  Using painters tape, rip off small chunks and stick to project.  Paint over it in any color, let dry and add more tape then paint it again.  Once you have the design and colors that you like, remove the tape and you have an interesting pattern with very little work involved.  I think this one turned out like camoflage.  This mirror is a larger size than most of the other ones blogged about.  It is 19 x 29.  I don't know what I like about mirrors so much because, I don't always like seeing myself in them but they are great for decorating and making rooms appear larger.  Quot...
