Painted Patterns

I have the ability to paint just about anything, but patterns are so fun to do.  It is relaxing to just doodle with the paint and create interesting designs.  Here are a few of my latest. This is a small cabinet that was 2.50 at the Goodwill.  It is heavy for it's size and very sturdy.  I added new knobs in addition to the fresh paint job. Cabinet before This is the top for one of the inexpensive side tables.  It has been in my basement collecting dust until I recently decided to give it new life Sometimes scraps of wood work for a canvas.  This was free and used to stabilize a shipping box.   Now it is a brightly patterned wall hanging. This is yet another Goodwill find for next to nothing.  It was probably used to display fruit or some kind of other decorative items and was originally bright yellow.  The new pattern is fun and the color scheme works well in my living room.    ...

Sew crazy!

My own pattern for a simple tote bag Sometimes a creative bug will hit me and I become obsessed with only painting or drawing or whatever.  Lately sewing has become my favorite thing to do.  It could be because of my current job at a fabric store where I am surrounded with fabric and endless inspiration.  Hm... Simplicity #2183 In the past few weeks I have made three skirts, a scarf, a jacket, a t-shirt and a scrub shirt for my hubby and tote bags.  The patterns are all super easy, the thing that takes time is cutting out the patterns.  When it comes to sewing the complex patterns are not for this girl.  Keep it simple and let the fabric do the talking.  The clothes are all patterns that were purchased, but the bag was made up by little ol' me.  :) See & Sew B5516 See & Sew B5516 Mccalls #6107 Kwik Sew pattern # 1750 with modifications This isn't everything, but just a few examples of my sew...

Wooden Board Patterns

I didn't originally buy this wall hanging for two posts, but that is what happened.  I used the small wooden heart from this Goodwill find to make a fun necklace on 6/14/11.  Today, I painted the other part in black and cream design. Sometimes after things are painted or drawn, I wonder how the design would look as fabric or wallpaper patterns.  It would be interesting to be able to see them in that way.  Remember the post about dream jobs?  That was a listed idea and it is still something I think about.  What if? It's good to have dreams and ambitions no matter what.  To quote John Lennon, "You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one"...

Happy Trees!

I thought this was a fun title for my post today.  I have never watched the painting show, but know the gist of it.  I was admiring all of the blossoming trees on a recent drive home and that was my inspiration. The tree is cut out of a patterned scrapbook paper because the design is fun.  It was then placed against a blue patterned background.  This is one that took way longer to cut out than it did to draw.  The swirling style is definitely a trademark element of mine if you haven't noticed by now.

The Easter Bunny is here!!!

All I can say is YEAH SPRING, it's about time!!! It's April and that means that Easter is just around the corner.  I decided to do a post for this awesome spring holiday today to get in the mood for spring blossoms and cheery colors.  This cute little guy is a pattern that I created quite a few years ago.  It was adapted from a Christmas moose that I saw in a craft magazine.  The ears have pipe cleaners stitched into them for support and also so that you are able to move and shape them.  There is a loop attached to the back so that you could use as a hanger, but he also looks cute sitting on a shelf or table.  Mr. Bunny is all dressed up in his suit coat and bow tie waiting to hide eggs and baskets.  If ever there is a design or pattern that you are interested please do not hesitate to contact me so that I can get the instructions to you.  Most are in my head, but I am willing to share them with you.  Drop me a line!

I sew too!

I have a favorite gift to give my friends and family that are expecting. Teddy Bears! I found this pattern a long time ago in a magazine, I think it was Better Homes and Garden, probably a special holiday decor issue, but anyways, since finding it, have made probably 40 bears. The pattern was printed in three sizes, I usually make the medium and large ones. It is just nice to give something that the child can grow up with and love. This one is made out of 2 different fabrics. I never sew on eyes because of little one playing with it. You don't want any choking accidents on buttons. They are soft and cuddly and can be customized for the nursery decor. Every kid needs a Teddy bear to snuggle with!
