Costume Ideas for husbands

First I am going to start with some costume ideas.  As I have said in the past, I love Halloween and dressing up, but, my husband Aric is not much for getting in the spirit of things.  Getting him to dress up can be a challenge.  So I go with what he likes and try to keep it simple.

1)  His favorite comedian of all time is Sam Kinison.  His look was easy to imitate.  Black shirt and pants, a long duster coat and a head scarf with skulls which was the only thing I had to buy.  He loved the costume and actually uses the scarf.

2)  Bluto from Animal House.  Khaki shorts, messy hair, an excuse not to shave, tennis shoes, a plaid button down shirt and a black sweatshirt with COLLEGE on it.  He had everything once again except for the sweatshirt which I bought and was very inexpensive and then ironed on the lettering.  He still wears the shirt also.  You could also add in a bottle of Jack for a prop too!

3)  Carl from Caddyshack (Bill Murray)  Galoshes or old boots (not laced up), khaki pants rolled up to the knee, an old t-shirt and fishing style hat with a camouflage pattern.  The t-shirt was one that was worn out anyways, so I took green and brown paint and rubbed it on it to look like grass and dirt stains.  Again, I only had one thing to purchase, the hat.  Now, my husband doesn't wear it, but it is in the costume bin just in case.

The key to a good costume is feeling comfortable in it and these three examples are definitely things that he felt great in and he actually had fun!  Think of favorite movie characters, musicians and he should get into it.

Mini project for the day is this little plaque that I am giving my niece Kyra for Christmas.  Personalized things are always appreciated especially for kids.

Heartthrob Cafe Memories

The best job ever and the coolest friends that I ever had were when I worked at a restaurant called the Heartthrob Cafe.  It was in downtown St Paul, Minnesota and was so fun!  Today we had a get together to catch up and reminisce.  This is one of the many good things about facebook, finding people that you wished you never lost contact with.  So, today my post is the buttons that I made for this event.  We had 'flair' that was a lot more fun and cool than a restaurant chain that I will not name here.  We danced and sang birthday songs.  The girls wore poodle skirts and we did all of this while wearing in line skates.  We were a crazy family and honestly this was one of the best times in my life.  Ahhh...memories. In the time spent there somehow the button machine came into my possession.  In honor of our gathering, of course I had to make pins.  Here are also two murals that I painted at the restaurant.  Let me...

Too many ideas!

When is comes to this time of year, my mind goes into creative overdrive.  I realize my posting is much less now that my original goal has been met, but believe me, I am still making stuff.  There are about ten Christmas gifts in the works as well as my calender drawings.  Current projects involve sewing, crafting, drawing and crocheting.  I am proud to say that a good chunk of gifts are already done or close to being done, yeah!  Working in a fabric store has definitely boosted my creativity and some days too many ideas are crowding my mind.  Because funds are still low for us, I have been buying things bit by bit every payday.  It helps to not have to blow an entire paycheck all at once.  This also is good because with my discount on top of sale price, I have gotten some incredible deals. Add caption Today, my post will be the first of my calender pages.  There are two finished so only ten to go!

Mosaic Circle

A thrift store find for less than a dollar.  I think it was a display of some sort at one time possibly with a glass top.  It is smaller so maybe for a cheese display, I'm not sure.  It's about seven inches around and has a ridge that had something that fit into it, your guess is as good as mine.   The first thing I did was flip it over to the smooth side and paint it black, then painted small pebbles shapes all over it in white.  The color scheme was random, first I added the green, then the blue.  I was going to leave it at that, but it needed more.  The gray and pearl paint were last minute decisions.  After the 'pebbles' were dry, they were outlined in the white.  It kind of has a mosaic effect, but it is all paint.  It's a new addition to my big wall of art projects.   Wow, three months down, nine to go.  I have doubted myself lately, but I ...
