Sweet Pillow & Sweet Bread

The other day I posted some felt items, one of them being this cupcake design.  Since then it has been finished and is now a fun and colorful pillow top.  It is so bright and cheery and is reminiscent of an Andy Warhol print.  Working with bright colors is a favorite of mine, the more color the better.

Today was also a baking day.  A few days ago I purchased some zucchini and today it was made into bread.  Patterns and recipes are both things that to me are guidelines so the recipe was altered to work with the ingredients that were on hand and I didn't feel like going to the store.  The recipe ended up as zucchini carrot bread and it is sooooo gooood!  It is posted below if you want to try it.

Zucchini Carrot Bread

2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
3/4 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp allspice
1/4 tsp ginger
3 cups flour
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 tbls vanilla
3 eggs
8 oz can of carrots blended and pureed with 1 tbls oil
2 1/2 - 3 cups grated zucchini

Mix together soda, powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, allspice and flour.  In a separate bowl beat the sugar, eggs, vanilla and carrot puree until well blended.  Add in the zucchini then mix in the dry ingredients.  Pour batter into greased loaf pan and bake at 350 for about 50 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.

Makes one large loaf or 5 mini loaves.  Mini loaves cook in about 35 - 40 minutes

Heartthrob Cafe Memories

The best job ever and the coolest friends that I ever had were when I worked at a restaurant called the Heartthrob Cafe.  It was in downtown St Paul, Minnesota and was so fun!  Today we had a get together to catch up and reminisce.  This is one of the many good things about facebook, finding people that you wished you never lost contact with.  So, today my post is the buttons that I made for this event.  We had 'flair' that was a lot more fun and cool than a restaurant chain that I will not name here.  We danced and sang birthday songs.  The girls wore poodle skirts and we did all of this while wearing in line skates.  We were a crazy family and honestly this was one of the best times in my life.  Ahhh...memories. In the time spent there somehow the button machine came into my possession.  In honor of our gathering, of course I had to make pins.  Here are also two murals that I painted at the restaurant.  Let me tell you they were tricky!  The murals are on glass and when

A few paintings

Can you believe it?  Another post this soon!  I have been making stuff, but the posting has gotten slower, sorry.  These two wooden plaques were bought at a thrift store for less than $2.00 each.  They had some premade botanical pictures on them.  I decided to just paint some random designs on them.  They are about 12 inches square and they turned out great but now what I really want to do is some more paintings in this style only much larger.  The designs would make such a statement on a larger scale.  That may require a trip to Menards or Home Depot.   Sorry for the picture quality, my camera in not working the best right now.

Black and Blue Snowflakes

Ah winter in Minnesota!  We have had a lot of snow this year and this design is snowflake based.  There is a contest that I am entering this week for snowflake design.  You can use any medium that you would like the only requirement is that it be no larger than 12 x 12 for display purposes.  I doodled until I came up with this 'snowflake.'  At this time I don't know if I want to submit the black design or the one that I did in the blue outline.  Both are very unique.  I have to admit after making the first design, I traced it for the second one, but as an artist sometimes you need to do that to get things just right.  If anyone is reading this a comment or two would be helpful in my decision.  The deadline is on Wednesday of this week.  It would be nice to get some kind of recognition for my art other than friends and family telling me how talented I am.  It keeps me going, but sometimes it would be nice to hear it from someone who judges and critiques art.  No matter what
