A Day with Auntie!

Right now, I have about five projects partially done, the only thing lacking is the time to finish them.  Sunday is my day off, so hopefully I will be able to go crazy and get a lot done.  Now, for today I have been racking my brain figuring out what to blog about.  Part of my problem is all of the unfinished projects, I want to get them all done, so the work is done simultaneously on all of them.  This is a bad thing when you are searching for just one item to blog about, but it will be good when next week rolls around and there are many items to choose from.

Many times I have posted about the meaning of the gift and putting thought into things rather than spending a ton of money.  Over the past few years as my niece and nephew have gotten older I have opted to give them an afternoon with Auntie.  When I first did this is was because I was unable to get to a birthday party for my niece.  We went and got pedicures together and chatted.  Since then, we have gone to lunch a few times and last year, I took my nephew to lunch.  They really enjoyed it and now as my husband's nieces and nephews are growing up, they too want to spend some time with me.  It is so fun!  One wants to cook with me, another is coming over this summer to paint.  His oldest niece and I are going to the History Center together some afternoon.  This has been a great gift and is beneficial to me and them, we get great memories and also get to know each other.  Just a reminder that you don't have to paint, craft or sew to be creative!

Here a mini project.  The other day, I made those cute flowers, well since then, I decided to make a few more.  Here is one that has a barrette attached, it is now an adorable hair ornament!

Heartthrob Cafe Memories

The best job ever and the coolest friends that I ever had were when I worked at a restaurant called the Heartthrob Cafe.  It was in downtown St Paul, Minnesota and was so fun!  Today we had a get together to catch up and reminisce.  This is one of the many good things about facebook, finding people that you wished you never lost contact with.  So, today my post is the buttons that I made for this event.  We had 'flair' that was a lot more fun and cool than a restaurant chain that I will not name here.  We danced and sang birthday songs.  The girls wore poodle skirts and we did all of this while wearing in line skates.  We were a crazy family and honestly this was one of the best times in my life.  Ahhh...memories. In the time spent there somehow the button machine came into my possession.  In honor of our gathering, of course I had to make pins.  Here are also two murals that I painted at the restaurant.  Let me...

Too many ideas!

When is comes to this time of year, my mind goes into creative overdrive.  I realize my posting is much less now that my original goal has been met, but believe me, I am still making stuff.  There are about ten Christmas gifts in the works as well as my calender drawings.  Current projects involve sewing, crafting, drawing and crocheting.  I am proud to say that a good chunk of gifts are already done or close to being done, yeah!  Working in a fabric store has definitely boosted my creativity and some days too many ideas are crowding my mind.  Because funds are still low for us, I have been buying things bit by bit every payday.  It helps to not have to blow an entire paycheck all at once.  This also is good because with my discount on top of sale price, I have gotten some incredible deals. Add caption Today, my post will be the first of my calender pages.  There are two finished so only ten to go!

Inspiring sky

Today, I had to run a few errands.  It was right around the time that the sky is starting to dim, the clouds were wispy and it was beautiful.   I love sunsets!  The sky was mostly a soft blue with a hint of pink and yellow.  This made me think about painting, so I went home and gathered up my stuff.  This piece of wood was a find at a home improvement store.  They always have odds and ends of cut wood that are next to nothing for cost.  This one was less than a dollar and a really nice heavy piece of oak.  I just brushed on yellow and pink and let them mingle together a bit for the sunset effect.  Then added the palm trees.  A little background about the trees, my husband is a HUGE Jimmy Buffett fan and has got me into the music as well.  Before I met him, I really didn't do much for tropical, but he got me involved in the fan club and once they found out about my art, they started calling me for items that w...
