Cute Crochet

Checking out creative books from the library has given me much needed inspiration on those days when my ideas are few or zero. Currently I have a crochet book, a book about updating your wardrobe and a book of retro craft ideas. The retro one is fun because it brings back memories of childhood crafting with popsicle sticks and found objects.  Today's post is from the Kooky Crochet book.  There are many ideas to crochet that are not things that your Grandma would make.  The only thing that I made so far out of the book is this little birdie.  He is about two inches high and is going to be perfect for an Easter/spring decoration.  It took less than an hour and is a great beginner project if you are new to crochet.  In the book it was done in a variety of colors, but I do love varigated yarn so that is what I chose.  How can you look at this sweet little guy and not smile! 


Oh, by the way it is Tuesday and that means I made a trip to the Goodwill!  I spent $10 and got some great stuff.  I love the 1.49 color tag sales!  Definately some posts in the near future using these items.

Heartthrob Cafe Memories

The best job ever and the coolest friends that I ever had were when I worked at a restaurant called the Heartthrob Cafe.  It was in downtown St Paul, Minnesota and was so fun!  Today we had a get together to catch up and reminisce.  This is one of the many good things about facebook, finding people that you wished you never lost contact with.  So, today my post is the buttons that I made for this event.  We had 'flair' that was a lot more fun and cool than a restaurant chain that I will not name here.  We danced and sang birthday songs.  The girls wore poodle skirts and we did all of this while wearing in line skates.  We were a crazy family and honestly this was one of the best times in my life.  Ahhh...memories. Pansy Pig

This is the second time that I have found a pig cutting board to use as a canvas for my painting.  This one is slightly larger than the previous one and also has a cute curly tail.       It cost 1.49 at the Goodwill, one of their weekly specials.  Every Tuesday they feature a different color of tag and anything with that color is 1.49.  I love Tuesdays!   Instead of another block design, I decided to paint pansies only in colors that they don't naturally grow.  I have mentioned my preference for things in black and white, but, red is a color that is next on my list of favorites.  The flowers really jump out at you in this project.  My next step is where to put her.  Ah, decisions.  Happy Creating!

Cocktail Coasters Part One

  What a beautiful day!  Read the Sunday paper, went for a walk, relaxed and painted.  I actually painted outside to fully take advantage of the weather.  Since tropical things are on my mind because of yesterday, the project for this post is featuring refreshing summer beverages.  This set of coasters is from a great thrift store and cost 1.91, what a bargain.  The original style is definitely from the seventies.  At first the plan was to make each coaster a different color, but that just didn't work.  A neutral color worked much better with the colorful cocktails.  With the distraction of the weather only three and the holder were finished today.  The others should be done for tomorrow. Hmm...why does a margarita sound good right now?
