Little Trees and Polka Dot Cookies

This little trio of trees came in a bundle from the thrift store for a total of 1.19. They were so cute, I had to get them. I decided to paint them to look like Christmas cookies. It was a quick project and they will look adorable on the kitchen counter.

What next? My staff loves it when I bake and lately, I have been getting requests for cookies at least once a week. An awesome cook asked me to please bring him cookies any kind, so I got some white chips and made chocolate cookies. The chips make them look like polka dots so that's why I called them Polka Dot Cookies. The recipe is from the white chips bag, but I added a little something extra this time, just a touch of cayenne pepper. They are not spicy at all, but you do get a hint of the flavor and chocolate and spice are a great combo!

Lastly, since I had to make cookies anyways, I set a few aside for my mother in law. Friday, she had to put her beloved dog Charlie down. He was such a good dog.

I decided to give her a nice card and add a few sweets to cheer her up. Hopefully it will put a little smile on her face, she is such a nice lady. I am lucky to have married into a great family.

Heartthrob Cafe Memories

The best job ever and the coolest friends that I ever had were when I worked at a restaurant called the Heartthrob Cafe. It was in downtown St Paul, Minnesota and was so fun! Today we had a get together to catch up and reminisce. This is one of the many good things about facebook, finding people that you wished you never lost contact with. So, today my post is the buttons that I made for this event. We had 'flair' that was a lot more fun and cool than a restaurant chain that I will not name here. We danced and sang birthday songs. The girls wore poodle skirts and we did all of this while wearing in line skates. We were a crazy family and honestly this was one of the best times in my life. Ahhh...memories. Too many ideas!

When is comes to this time of year, my mind goes into creative overdrive. I realize my posting is much less now that my original goal has been met, but believe me, I am still making stuff. There are about ten Christmas gifts in the works as well as my calender drawings. Current projects involve sewing, crafting, drawing and crocheting. I am proud to say that a good chunk of gifts are already done or close to being done, yeah! Working in a fabric store has definitely boosted my creativity and some days too many ideas are crowding my mind. Because funds are still low for us, I have been buying things bit by bit every payday. It helps to not have to blow an entire paycheck all at once. This also is good because with my discount on top of sale price, I have gotten some incredible deals. Add caption Today, my post will be the first of my calender pages. Black and Blue Snowflakes

Ah winter in Minnesota! We have had a lot of snow this year and this design is snowflake based. There is a contest that I am entering this week for snowflake design. You can use any medium that you would like the only requirement is that it be no larger than 12 x 12 for display purposes. I doodled until I came up with this 'snowflake.' At this time I don't know if I want to submit the black design or the one that I did in the blue outline. Both are very unique. I have to admit after making the first design, I traced it for the second one, but as an artist sometimes you need to do that to get things just right. If anyone is reading this a comment or two would be helpful in my decision. The deadline is on Wednesday of this week. It would be nice to get some kind of recognition for my art other than friends and family telling me how talented I am. It keeps me going, but sometimes it would be nice to hear it from s...
